OVERVIEW OF ENGINE

The figure shows a top view of a 90 hp engine installed in a 2300 lb compact car (actually a VW Rabbit or Golf). The VW Rabbit was chosen as the reference compact car because of its popularity at the time, good engineering and performance, and a well-designed, low-profile engine compartment into which my engine easily fits. The expander, steam generator, condenser, two blowers, and regenerator have been sized in detail by the computer code mentioned above. The other components have been estimated based on what is typical for an engine of this size. Note the ample access space around the components. Also, the heaviest items are toward the rear, improving weight distribution.
